Cisco is the market leader and sets the standards for internetworking hardware. Cisco provides the infrastructure tha t makes connectivity with the Internet and Wide Area Networks (WAN) possible. Any company with an IT department, a Web presence or a WAN needs Cisco Certified Engineers.
The Cisco CCNA network associate certification validates the ability to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot medium-size routed and switched networks, including implementation and verification of connections to remote sites in a WAN.
Related Job Titles
The CCNA certification indicates a foundation in and apprentice knowledge of networking. CCNA certified professionals can install, configure, and operate LAN, WAN, and dial access services for small networks (100 nodes or fewer), including but not limited to use of these protocols: IP, IGRP, Serial, Frame Relay, IP RIP, VLANs, RIP, Ethernet, Access Lists.

Pre-Requisites
No required pre-requisites, however networking experience or certification and working with Cisco products is recommended.
Certification Track
In mid 2007, Cisco made significant investments in its education and certification programs to equip more people for successful careers in networking. A new certification, CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician), was added to present a new point of entry for those just building a career in networking. This certification is an optional stepping-stone to CCNA status.
The CCNA certification sequence was also updated to include a greater breadth of networking topics and more focus on performance-based skills to differentiate Cisco certified applicants in the IT job market.
